  • Overlooking the Florist’s Design Aesthetic

Take note brides-to-be, there’s a whole lot of super useful info packed into these five tips on what to avoid when choosing wedding flowers!

Confusing Inspiration Boards

When brides piece together their inspiration board, full of wonderful ideas and creativity, it can help to visualise the wedding. However, this only works when the inspiration board follows a particular theme with matching colours and styles.

If the inspiration board isn’t very organised it can be stressful to envision your perfect wedding. Additionally, it also makes it difficult for the florist to understand what the bride actually wants to see during her wedding day!

Should you need help organising your board or want to ensure you and your florist are on the same page, then speak to the florist or wedding coordinator. As a result, they’ll help to point you in the right direction and make your dream wedding a reality.

Being Too Fixated On Making It “Perfect”

It’s easy to imagine the “perfect” wedding. However, it’s just as easy to imagine a wedding that includes a horse and carriage with 1,000 doves flying over you whilst you’re walking down the aisle… This is why it’s important to give your wedding a little bit of flexibility.

Although, you can probably keep the horse and carriage, especially if your wedding venue is at Beverley Racecourse. Nonetheless, it’s not hard to guess that renting 1,000 doves isn’t likely to work with your wedding’s budget… unless you have an extra £75,000 that is!

Whether you have an endless budget or not, you’re bound to come across a couple of hurdles whilst planning your wedding. so be prepared to search for an interim solution or make slight changes. You can also seek advice from your wedding planner if you have one.

Don’t Believe Everything You See Online

As we all know, photos don’t always tell the truth. This is because software like photoshop and newly available filters can alter the appearance of a photo. This can be great for making your wedding’s photography. Unfortunately, edited images can also create unrealistic expectations that simply don’t exist in nature.

These images also make it harder for brides to tell what’s realistic and what’s not. Often causing more harm than good for their wedding. It’s important to think about what you really want in your wedding and what you know you can have on the day – this way you’re not left searching for mystical wedding flowers that don’t actually exist!

Scheduling A Consultation Too Early

Planning which flowers you want for your wedding venue is an important stage and can really change the atmosphere of a wedding venue. Naturally, you would think that scheduling a consultation with a florist or wedding planner early on would be a great idea. Believe it or not, starting too early isn’t always the best idea, even if it’s better than being late.

Unless you know the wedding date, venue and approximate guest count, there’s no need to start discussing flowers. The conversation will be very limited and your florist will likely need more certainty to know exactly what you need. Likewise, many brides often change their minds after seeing new inspiration and sometimes rethink their entire colour palette, which is essentially starting from scratch again!

Overlooking the Florist’s Design Aesthetic

Although many florists can accommodate varying styles, especially those with more experience, designers tend to follow a certain aesthetic. Be sure to look at your designer’s previous work and see if the style you’ve chosen matches the florist’s aesthetic. For example, if you’re looking for a unique wedding venue, you’ll want to avoid a florist who’s only ever worked in churches. If the florist’s past work doesn’t reflect your style then it’s usually a good sign they’re not the one for you.
